The old ones were trash. Don’t buy the cheapies off amazon even if they have good reviews, go to the forums to see what actual enthusiasts buy. The old are ECOGard or something, way too restrictive and very weak, causing them to get sucked into the intake and bent. No bueno. I bought some K&N drop ins and the difference is shocking. Feels more powerful, definitely more mid-range torque and a more even power band. Overall very much worth the money.

interesting - I need to try one of those K&N. I tried generic and they were noticeably worse than stock so I quickly swapped an OEM unit back in. Any issues with the filter oil/goo on the O2 sensor?

Nope, I’ll just have to clean the MAF every 3 months or so

The last “upgrade” I would ever make is an intake air filter. Louder isn't better in this instance and oiling an air filter is an absurd exercise in futility. Get a dry paper filter from a reputable manufacturer (I like to use the one the manufacturer recommends). Most have vastly more filter media than is found in a K&N and they will never screw up your MAF sensor.

Pretty decent study looking at aftermarket and OEM air filters. K&N was shown to have a higher pressure drop (less airflow) when both clean and dirty. Also clogged quicker. The benefit I see from K&N is you don’t have to throw them away.

Well it’s good that they’re technically a knockoff, and it’s a dry filter.

They’re actually a knockoff dry filter, but still reusable.

So it’s just a regular filter died red?

No, it’s reusable, and the meshing is metal. It’s very high quality and has great reviews
